One of the best and most enjoyable ways to increase your child's success at school is to become involved in the school's community. Cherrywood Home and School Club is comprised of dedicated parents and staff who want to be actively involved in supporting the school's many programs and activities.
Mission and Goals
Cherrywood Elementary School's non-profit parent organization works to build the bridge between Cherrywood students, teachers, staff and families. Our mission is to augment district and school programs by maximizing parental involvement with the intent of providing an educational advantage and stimulating environment for our students.
Our goals are:
Align parent involvement and support with the needs of Cherrywood staff and students.

Families enjoyed watching Yes Day at the last Family Movie Night ever at Cherrywood. Thank you to the volunteers and CLIMB leaders for working the concession stands sponsored by HSC. Congratulations to our 5 lucky door prize winners who received Chick-fil-A gift cards donated by Chick-fil-A North First Street. Big shout out to Nhu-y Nguyen and Emily Ho for leading the event and to our dedicated HSC volunteers for making this event successful.
Read Across America
Thank you Ms. Ann Chu for organizing this year's Read Across America with library activities and special author assemblies sponsored by HSC! Students enjoyed listening to the delicious story of 10 Gulab Jamins: Counting by Sandhya Acharya and the resonating graphic novel of Family Style: Memories of an American from Vietnam by Thien Pham. What made this year more special was seeing how successful a Cherrywood alumni is and being able to relate to Thien Pham's nostalgic stories of his elementary school.
Lunar New Year 2025
Our Charger community had a blast at this year's Lunar New Year celebrations. The Year of the Snake kicked off with cultural performances and arts and crafts workshops. Teachers and staff celebrated with a festive feast with traditional Chinese dishes that represented good fortune and longevity. The celebrations cumulated in the first and last Lunar New Year Family Night. What a treat it was to see all the smiling faces as they watched an amazing lion dance, tasted traditional foods, played interactive games, and made unique keepsakes. Congratulations to the door prize winners and the best booth activities: finger knit snakes, face painting, and candy painting! We are thankful for the LNY committees, event & booth volunteers, Tingna Dance Cherrywood Team, 5th Grade Cultural Performance Team, Julia and Deon Lion Dance Team, CLIMB leaders, and our sponsors: Fei Teng Chick-fil-A North First Street, Baskin Robbins, and the Chinese Heritage and Cultural Project for making it a huge success!
Family STEAM Night
Family STEAM Night 2024 was a great success with over 200 Charger families enjoying the interactive activity stations. We could not have done it without our hard-working volunteers, the Math Medic Foundation, and community partners: Julia Robinson Math Foundation, Piedmont Hills High School Baking Club, and 4-H. We are so lucky to have a generous community that has helped us spread holiday cheer to children through the Toys for Tots donations. Thank you to all families who purchased food passes, helping to raise $1,403.55 and supporting the 5th Grade Mini Maker Market which raised $1,058 towards 5th grade promotion. Congratulations to Makayla Garcia for winning the most creative maker business. We’d also like to recognize our door prize sponsors Happy Hollow Park & Zoo and The Tech Museum.
Holiday Celebrations
We had a wonderful time at the HSC Volunteer Holiday Party on 12/7. Special thanks to Tingna Dance Studio for teaching the volunteers and their kids fun K-pop moves. We had a blast belting out karaoke tunes and enjoying each other’s company, something we often don’t get to do because we’re too busy working hard at school throughout the year. We are so lucky that our former HSC President, Nhu-Y Nguyen donated the Phamily Wellness Boutique health and beauty baskets for our lucky door prize winners. In addition, HSC showed our appreciation to the teachers and staff by hosting a Swedish themed holiday luncheon last week organized by Jeannie Young. The event was made possible by your HSC Invest Campaign donations and The Stand Restaurant. HSC wishes all our Charger community a healthy, happy, and safe holiday season!
Ruby Bridges Walk 2024
On November 14, 1960, a 6 year old first grader named Ruby Bridges made history when she integrated William Frantz Elementary School. We honor her courageous action and historic steps that initiated desegregation of New Orlean's public schools. Cherrywood students joined hundreds of thousands of students across the country for the Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day this year to continue the dialogue of what they can do to bring an end to racism and all forms of bullying. Thank you to our generous sponsors for making this event possible, inspiring students to find their passion and strength- one step at a time.
Diwali Celebration
Thank you, Divya Krishnan, for leading the wonderful Diwali celebrations at Cherrywood for a third year in a row. Volunteers illuminated the campus with vibrant marigold decorations as students created rangoli arts and crafts to display in the multipurpose room. Teachers and staff celebrated with a Diwali luncheon and henna tattoos. The festivities culminated in an amazing cultural assembly where students learned what Diwali was and why it was celebrated. The assembly showcased student performances and engaged students to learn a lively Bollywood dance by Anjali Kulkarni from Balya Nritya.

Congratulations Paige Awai for Best Dressed Trunk and Kevin Chang for Best Activity! Thank you to our prize sponsors Broadway San Jose and The Escape Game.
Hispanic Heritage Month
Cherrywood celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with an assembly about the history of mariachi, an instrumental part of Hispanic culture. Students and staff gathered to honor and appreciate the ensemble-based music performance by Mariachi Jalisco. Students wore traditional clothing and colors as they listened to instruments like guitars, violins, trumpets, and guitarrons, the large bass-like guitars. Thank you to Desiree Alarcon for organizing and providing this opportunity for students to connect with each other through culture and music.

Welcome Back Picnic
HSC hosted our first family event of the year with our annual Welcome Back Picnic. Families gathered with their picnic blankets to enjoy delicious food organized by the 5th Grade Science Camp Fundraising Committee. Students enjoyed catching up with each other while playing giant chess, bowling, cornhole, Jenga, ring toss, and more! Of course it wouldn't be the same without our infamous tug-of-war game. Thank you to the families who donated items for our book and uniform exchange. We couldn't have done it without the teachers, volunteers, and the Welcome Back Picnic Committee for an amazing start to the school year!
Welcome Committee
Thank you to the 2024 Welcome Committee for organizing this year's New Family Play Dates, Donut Worry Drop Off, and New Teacher Welcome Gifts! Our dedicated volunteer committee (Miranda Kim, Grace Tsai, Amy Chi, and Betty Mai) started the work in June by putting together the school supply kits for new students and continued to work tirelessly over the summer to plan and organize the engaging activities. The goal of the committee is to create a welcoming and inviting environment for all - establishing the foundation for family and community engagement. All welcoming activities are made possible by our volunteers and your annual investment in HSC through the Invest Campaign. Special thanks to Sunny Liu, Bud Lee, and Kenny Lee for supporting the team and making it all possible!
